A. Michael Lipper, CFA
A. Michael Lipper, on the passing of Donald Calvin became the Chairman of International Stock Exchange Executives Emeriti, a global group of former Stock Exchange Officials. Mr. Lipper is the founder and president of Lipper Advisory Services, Inc., an SEC registered investment advisor providing counsel and management of accounts investing in mutual funds, and separate accounts. He is also the managing member of LSF Partners, LP, a private financial services fund. In addition, he continues to accept a limited number of consulting assignments dealing with funds and brokerage firms through Lipper Consulting Services, Inc. Mr. Lipper has been an investor in equities for 50 years, and an analyst of funds for over 40 years. Many of the large investment organizations of the world have consulted with him on various investment issues. He has been a regular source of comment to the global press. He is the author of Money Wise (2008) and he maintains a weekly blog: www.mikelipper.blogspot.com. In 1973, Mr. Lipper founded Lipper Analytical Services, Inc., an investment firm dedicated to the analysis of funds and brokerage firms. In 1998 he sold the operating assets of the firm to Reuters Group, PLC. Reuters has transformed the firm into what is now known as Lipper Inc. Mr. Lipper has been active in various industry associations. He has served on the board of the New York Society of Security Analysts (NYSSA) in some part during each of the last four decades, including as President during the 1993-1994 term. For many years, he was also the Chairman of NYSSA’s Investment Strategy Forum/Portfolio Management Committee. Mr. Lipper has also been a Regional Director of the Financial Analysts Federation and a founding member and Director of the International Society of Financial Analysts. He is a Past Chairman of the Specialty Firms Advisory Committee of the New York Stock Exchange. After graduating from Columbia College in 1957, Mr. Lipper joined the U.S. Marine Corps as an officer and is a Founding Member of The National Museum of the Marine Corps. Mr. Lipper’s “pro bono” activity includes serving as a Trustee of the California Institute of Technology and he sits on its Investment, Business & Finance and the Audit & Compliance Committees. He currently serves on Columbia University Medical Center’s Board of Advisors. Mr. Lipper is also a former Board Member of the Museum of American Finance and is currently a Trustee of the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation.In numerous ways Mr. Lipper has received distinguished recognition for his work: the “No Load Mutual Fund Association Achievement Award” (1987), a member of the Barron’s All Century Team (2000), The Chambers Award from the NJPAC for service to the community and the Arts (along with his wife Ruth Lipper, 2005), named one of the “Visionaries of the Mutual Fund Industry” by Strategic Insight (2011), the Lifetime Achievement Award from Thomson Reuter’s Lipper Inc. (2013), and the Benjamin Graham Distinguished Service Award from the NYSSA (2013).
